WeserWind Innovations- und Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH was established in Bremen in July 2002 with equal holdings by Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH and Stahl-Service-Center Group GmbH, each of which Holding equal shares. In December 2004, Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH tool all of the shares in WeserWind GmbH. On July 2005, the company was registered in Bremerhaven under the name WeserWind GmbH Offshore Construction Georgsmarienhütte and is assigned to the Plant Engineering business unit within the Georgsmarienhütte group of companies.
Bremerhaven as an offshore location
WeserWind moved to Bremerhaven as per November 2003. Bremerhaven provides optimum conditions for offshore wind energy as production and loading locations are situated directly on the coast. As one of the world’s largest deep-sea ports and availing of an ideal infrastructure, Bremerhaven complies with the conditions governing onshore and offshore solutions for large, heavy special steel constructions as well as for sea transport of offshore foundation structures. The state of Bremen is also ideal as an R&D location for WeserWind GmbH. The requisite technical expertise for innovations in the area of offshore wind power accompanied by short routes and decision-making competence on site are a guarantee for swift and economical solutions.
Our competencies
WeserWind GmbH Offshore Construction Georgsmarienhütte offers both foundation structures and complete wind metmasts for offshore wind energy. Inland sites include Georgsmarienhütte (IAG) and Köthen (Kranbau Köthen GmbH) as well as a manufacturing facility currently under development in Bremerhaven. The focus is on an integrated approach, the application of innovative technologies and on-going incorporation of attached manufacturing facilities from the design phase through to installation.
In this process, we can rely on the extensive services offered by the Georgsmarienhütte Group of Companies in the areas of cast iron, steel castings, forging technology, shaping technology (plate thicknesses to 100 mm), heavy steel construction, apparatus and container engineering as well as component manufacturing for offshore technology. The WeserWind GmbH site currently under development in Bremerhaven can be used for components with maximum diameters of 30 metres and maximum unit weights of 1,200 tonnes.
In cooperation with our manufacturing facilities and partners, we guarantee economical and efficient fabrication with WeserWind GmbH as an ARGE partner for the implementation of entire projects. The integrated approach is supported by close cooperation with planners and research institutes as well as certifying and insurance companies.
