Amrumbank West Wind Metmast
The project
WeserWind GmbH has successfully concluded its first offshore project-in the form of the Amrumbank West wind metmast for Amrumbank West GmbH, a subsidiary of E.ON Energie AG.
The project partners
The joint venture between HOCHTIEF Construction AG (CEM subsidiary), Muhibbah Marine Engineering (Germany) GmbH und IAG Industrie-Anlagen-Bau Georgsmarienhütte GmbH was obliged to find several new solutions for this project. WeserWind GmbH and IAG Industrie-Anlagen-Bau Georgsmarienhütte GmbH implemented and co-ordinated the complete steel construction and consequently played a major role in the planning process.
The specifications
The customer’s main interest was a high availability of certain measured data at the geographic position of 54° 30’ north, 7° 42’ east. Even though there was a lot of scope for development, plenty of parameters had to be considered such as high static and dynamic loads, the requirements of certifier Germanischer Lloyd, Wasser- und Schifffahrtsdirektion as well as the International Civil Aviation Organization and the requirements of the measurement equipment.
Offshore assembly and commissioning
After the completion of manufacturing and final assembly in Bremerhaven, the metmast was loaded onboard the JB 1 jackup platform. Since it was known that offshore assembly would take place under bad weather conditions, the design of the metmast was optimised for fast offshore assembly. The steel structure was put together for the first time in its whole length on 8 April 2005. Two days later, the measurement equipment was put into operation. The Amrumbank West wind metmast has been storing and sending the desired data ever since.
